Lisa Lilienfield, MD

Physician

Lisa Lilienfield, MD, is board-certified in family medicine and is a member of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture. Dr. Lilienfield also serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Georgetown University School of Medicine’s Department of Community and Family Medicine.

In Dr. Lisa’s words, “My goal is to help my patients get well by finding a balance in life — not just physically, but in mind, body and spirit. I look at each patient’s medical history, family history, medications, sleep problems, adrenal and other endocrine problems. We do a thorough workup and develop a treatment plan. Sometimes relatively simple changes can radically improve a patient’s health!”

Dr. Lilienfield’s approach to care comes from a Functional Medicine (FM) perspective, treating the “whole person,” not just her patient’s symptoms. Each new patient visit starts with a look back in time to find stressors or traumas that may be contributing to his or her health condition.

After a thorough physical examination, targeted blood work and other specialized tests to find hormonal imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, or other fundamental dysfunctions within the body will be ordered. Dr. Lilienfield then creates a unique treatment plan that aims to address those imbalances and lower inflammation so the body can begin healing.

Dr. Lilienfield was recognized by Fifty Plus Magazine as an “Exceptional Physician” for her holistic approach to medicine and has been included in Washingtonian Magazine’s listing as one of the “Best Doctors in the Washington, D.C. Area.” She continues to strengthen her medical knowledge by regularly attending conferences and completing a variety of Continuing Medical Education courses with The Institute for Functional Medicine, including:

She also completed an online course on “Cognitive Behavioral Therapy on Insomnia” through the Sleep Disorders Center at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center.

An accomplished athlete, Dr. Lilienfield strongly encourages her patients to develop their own exercise programs in weight training, aerobic exercise, Pilates, or yoga.
