Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Do you feel chronically tired? Have you been diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, but experienced limited success with treatments and medications? Are you looking for a solution or at least more effective ways to manage your symptoms?

We are here to help.

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) is a debilitating disease characterized by fatigue that interferes with your ability to actively engage in many of life’s activities. It can undermine your capacity to be productive at work, to maintain positive relationships with your family and friends and to enjoy other recreational activities. In addition to a chronic feeling of fatigue, its major symptoms include:

  • Joint pain
  • Sleep problems
  • Headaches
  • Persistent muscle pain
  • Tender lymph nodes
  • Cognitive difficulties – difficulty with memory and concentration
  • A sore throat
  • Increased levels of fatigue and discomfort following exertion

Other symptoms that sometimes are associated with ME/CFS include gastrointestinal problems, psychological issues, sensitivity to lights and sounds, visual difficulties, chills, and dizziness.

If you have some of these symptoms, you may be suffering from Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. However, there also are other conditions that present with very similar symptoms, such as chronic Lyme disease, biotoxicity disorder and autoimmune diseases like Multiple Sclerosis, Lupus, and Celiac Disease. Unfortunately, the fact that ME/CFS shares symptoms with so many other illnesses often result in many patients receiving an incomplete or incorrect diagnosis.

How We Can Help

At The Kaplan Center, our physicians have years of experience treating patients with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and other chronic pain conditions, and we completely reject the notion that “you just have to live with it.”

We offer a multitude of effective treatment options, including:

At your first visit, your Kaplan physician will take time exploring the onset of your condition, the specific nature of your symptoms and the overall status of your health. You’ll also be asked about the medications and therapies you’ve tried in the past, and what has and hasn’t worked for you. To gather additional information about your condition, specialized diagnostic laboratory testing may be necessary.

After reviewing all of the factors contributing to your condition, your physician will spend time talking with you about your diagnosis and working with you to create a customized and multi-dimensional treatment plan that addresses not only your immediate pain but also any possible underlying or co-existing conditions that may be causing or aggravating your symptoms.
