Nourishing Men’s Health Through Food and Lifestyle

June 18, 2026/in Wellness/by Chardonée Donald, MS, CBHS, CHN, CNS, LDN

Supporting men’s health goes beyond annual checkups it’s about nourishing the body with foods and habits that promote longevity and wellness. June is Men’s Health Month, a reminder that good health starts with the daily choices.

Here is my list of essential foods, nutrients, and habits every man should know for better health and longevity.

Foods That Support Men’s Health
  • Fatty fish (salmon, sardines, trout): Rich in omega-3 fatty acids that support heart health, brain function, and help reduce inflammation.
  • Tomatoes: A great source of lycopene, an antioxidant associated with prostate health.
  • Leafy greens (spinach, kale, collards): Provide fiber, folate, magnesium, and other nutrients that support cardiovascular health.
  • Nuts and seeds (walnuts, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds): Contain healthy fats, zinc, and magnesium that support hormone balance and overall wellness.
  • Beans and lentils: Excellent sources of plant-based protein and fiber for blood sugar balance, heart health, and digestive health.
  • Berries (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries): Packed with antioxidants that help protect cells and support healthy aging.
Key Vitamins & Minerals for Men’s Health
  • Vitamin D: Supports bone health, immune function, muscle strength, and healthy testosterone levels.
  • Magnesium: Important for muscle function, energy production, sleep quality, and stress management.
  • Zinc: Supports immune health, wound healing, and healthy testosterone production.
  • Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Promote heart, brain, and joint health while helping reduce inflammation.
  • Vitamin B12: Supports energy production, nervous system health, and red blood cell formation.
  • Folate (Vitamin B9): Important for heart health and healthy cell function.
  • Vitamin C: Acts as an antioxidant and supports immune health and collagen production.
  • Selenium: Supports thyroid function, immune health, and reproductive health.
  • Potassium: Helps regulate blood pressure and supports heart and muscle function.
Lifestyle Habits That Matter
  • Prioritize quality sleep to support energy, recovery, and hormone health.
  • Engage in regular physical activity to support heart health, strength, and mental well-being.
  • Manage stress through mindfulness, exercise, time outdoors, or other restorative practices.
  • Stay connected with friends, family, and community to support emotional health.
  • Schedule routine preventive care and health screenings.
A Simple Reminder
  • Small, consistent changes often have the biggest impact.
  • Focus on adding nourishing foods rather than striving for perfection.
  • Choose one healthy habit to build this month and let it grow over time.
  • Begin again! If you fall off of your regimen don’t feel bad, just start again!

This Men’s Health Month, celebrate your health by taking simple steps to nourish your body, support your mind, and invest in your longevity and well-being with the Kaplan Center for Integrative Medicine!
