Irregular Menstrual Bleeding

November 7, 2012/in Active Condition/by Website Administrator

Irregular menstrual bleeding can include a skipped period, painful periods, excessive bleeding, abnormal bleeding between periods, a menstrual cycle beyond 35 days, or any unexpected change in a woman’s regular cycle.

The average menstrual cycle for a woman ranges between 21 and 35 days with bleeding lasting from 2 to 7 days between cycles. When a woman’s cycle falls outside these parameters, it is referred to as “irregular menstrual bleeding.”

There are a wide variety of conditions that can lead to irregular bleeding including stress, an eating disorder, excessive exercising, hormonal imbalance, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or an underlying medical condition like endometriosis or Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).

Due to the range of conditions that can lead to menstrual problems, it is critical that women who are experiencing irregular menstrual bleeding receive a complete and accurate diagnosis to ensure effective treatment.

How We Can Help

At your first visit, your Kaplan provider will take time to explore the onset of your condition, the specific nature of your symptoms, and the overall status of your health. You’ll also be asked about the medications and therapies you’ve tried in the past, and what has and hasn’t worked for you. To gather additional information about your condition, specialized diagnostic laboratory testing may be necessary.

After reviewing all of the factors contributing to your condition, your physician will spend time talking with you about your diagnosis and working with you to create a customized and multi-dimensional treatment plan that addresses not only your immediate pain but also any possible underlying or co-existing conditions that may be causing or aggravating your symptoms.

We offer a multitude of effective treatment options, including:

  • Natural & Synthetic Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)
  • Acupuncture
  • Stress-Reduction Meditation Training
  • Nutritional Counseling

We are here for you, and we want to help.

Our goal is to return you to optimal health as soon as possible. To schedule an appointment please call: 703-532-4892 x2
