Nerve Pain

November 7, 2012/in Active Condition, Osteopath/by Website Administrator

Nerve pain, also referred to as neuralgia, is the pain that occurs after damage or irritation to a nerve. In addition to a chronic or intermittent sharp pain along the nerve, you may also experience increased sensitivity or numbness in the affected area.]/intro]

Nerve pain can occur anywhere in the body but are especially common along the spine. Degeneration of muscles and joints, infections, congenital conditions, diabetes, trauma, and any pressure on the nerves by vessels, bones or tumors, can result in neuralgic pain. Two of the most common types of neuralgias are postherpetic neuralgia and shingles. In some cases, the pain may fade over time, but persistent or severe cases require medical attention. Neuralgia can be difficult to diagnose because there are a large number of conditions that have similar pain symptoms.

How We Can Help

At The Kaplan Center, our physicians have years of experience treating patients suffering from neuralgic pain and other chronic pain conditions, and we completely reject the notion that “you just have to live with it.”

At your first visit, your Kaplan physician will take time exploring the onset of your condition, the specific nature of your symptoms and the overall status of your health. You’ll also be asked about the medications and therapies you’ve tried in the past, and what has and hasn’t worked for you. To gather additional information about your condition, specialized diagnostic laboratory testing may be necessary.

After reviewing all of the factors contributing to your condition, your physician will spend time talking with you about your diagnosis and working with you to create a customized and multi-dimensional treatment plan that addresses not only your immediate pain but also any possible underlying or co-existing conditions that may be causing or aggravating your symptoms.

We offer a multitude of effective treatment options, including:

  • Acupuncture
  • EMDR & Guided Meditation
  • Frequency Specific Microcurrent
  • Meditation training
  • Prescription Medication
  • Sleep Evaluation & Management
  • Vitamin & Magnesium Intravenous Supplementation
