Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

December 13, 2012/in Active Condition/by Website Administrator

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or “ADHD” is characterized primarily by heightened distractibility, inattentiveness and impulsive behavior, ranging from constant fidgeting to lack of organization. All of these symptoms will be outside of the “normal” range for an individual’s age and developmental expectations. Symptoms of ADHD usually emerge early in life and more frequently affect boys than girls.

Recent studies have shown that ADHD is a condition that can be influenced by diet. Consequently, it is essential to identify possible underlying nutritional problems, such as Celiac disease or food allergies that can contribute to or exacerbate ADHD. Other medical problems, including Lyme disease and biotoxicity, can lead to cognitive or behavioral changes that mimic ADHD symptoms. Consequently, before prescribing medication or any other treatment for an individual who has been diagnosed with ADHD, a comprehensive medical history must be taken to identify the underlying causes of his or her symptoms.

How We Can Help

At The Kaplan Center, our physicians have years of experience treating patients with chronic conditions like ADHD that interfere with one’s quality of life, and we completely reject the notion that “you just have to live with it.”

At your first visit, your Kaplan physician will take time exploring the onset of your condition, the specific nature of your symptoms and the overall status of your health. You’ll also be asked about the medications and therapies you’ve tried in the past, and what has and hasn’t worked for you. To gather additional information about your condition, specialized diagnostic laboratory testing also may be necessary.

After reviewing all of the factors contributing to your condition, your physician will spend time talking with you about your diagnosis and working with you to create a customized and multi-dimensional treatment plan that addresses not only your immediate symptoms but also any possible underlying or co-existing conditions that may be causing or aggravating your symptoms.

We offer a multitude of effective treatment options, including:

  • Acupuncture
  • Craniosacral Therapy
  • Cognitive Therapy / EMDR
  • Herbal Remedies & Nutritional Supplements
  • Intravenous Supplementation
  • Meditation Training
  • Nutritional Counseling
  • Prescription Medication
  • Sleep Evaluation / Management

We are here for you, and we want to help.

Our goal is to return you to optimal health as soon as possible. To schedule an appointment please call: 703-532-4892 x2
