A migraine is much more than a bad headache. It is a collection of neurological symptoms that may include throbbing pain on one side of the head, neck pain or stiffness, nausea, vomiting, and/or visual distortions called “aura”. The severity of migraine symptoms can vary widely from person-to-person, ranging from minor issues with vision without pain to a general feeling of being unwell to being completely immobilized and unable to function. The symptoms can last anywhere from a few hours to a few days, and the frequency varies just as widely, from once or twice a week to once or twice a year.
The one common denominator is that anyone that suffers from migraine headaches wants to know how to prevent them.
Migraine Prevention
Migraine prevention largely relies on identifying your personal migraine triggers and finding effective preventative treatments. This means meticulous tracking of the foods you eat, environmental conditions, and likely some additional testing for conditions that may be contributing factors. This is no easy task, but once the detective work is done, making lifestyle changes to avoid your triggers will help you live a more robust and pain-free life.
Integrative Medicine for Migraine Relief
Integrative medicine is a highly effective model of health care that incorporates the best elements of conventional and alternative medicine. Fortunately, people seeking migraine relief have a wide range of alternative treatments that are clinically proven to help reduce migraine frequency and severity. Keeping an open mind and exploring some alternative treatments could actually be the key to becoming migraine-free.
